Five warning signs that shouldn't wait.

One of the questions our emergency team hears most often โ from patients and worried family members alike โ is "should we come in, or can this wait until morning?" There's no single rule that covers every situation, but a few warning signs are consistent enough that they deserve immediate attention rather than a wait-and-watch approach.
Especially when it spreads to the arm, jaw, or back, or comes with breathlessness, sweating, or nausea. Don't try to "walk it off" or wait to see if it passes โ get to a hospital or call an ambulance immediately.
Breathlessness that comes on suddenly, or that keeps getting worse despite rest and any usual medication (such as an inhaler), needs urgent evaluation โ it can point to anything from a severe asthma attack to a cardiac or lung problem.
These can be early signs of a stroke, and timing matters enormously for how well a stroke can be treated. A simple way to check: ask the person to smile, raise both arms, and speak a short sentence. If anything looks uneven or wrong, don't wait โ this is a "call now" situation.
Pain that is severe, doesn't ease with rest, or comes with persistent vomiting, fever, or a rigid/tender abdomen can signal something that needs prompt surgical assessment.
In both adults and children, this combination can point to a serious infection and should be checked the same day rather than managed at home.
If you're genuinely unsure, it's always safer to call and describe the symptoms than to guess. Vistara Hospital's emergency department and ambulance service are available 24/7, and our team would always rather see you and confirm everything's fine than have you wait too long at home.
